CALENDARS

When gathering data on a website,
collecting dates can cause many problems,
look at just some of the possibilities.

With so many possible layouts. a reliable method
which always gathers dates in the same format
is required and there are 2 preferred methods.
Useage depends on the type of application.

Select Method

This is where the visitor enters a date
via drop down boxes, as in this example.

This method is used when a wide range of dates is required,
ie. any date within the next few years as would be used on sites
where you can book holidays, flights, sailings etc.

In many cases, this method is the fastest way to enter dates.
The output from these selector boxes would be processed by a
server side script which would test the selection for validity.

Many websites use javascript calendars which only work if the user has javascript turned on. Not much good if your visitors are unable to buy or book your fabulous services.

Calendars

Calendars are a simple and accurate way for visitors to select specific dates.

Calendars are very intuitive and are ideal for displaying booking information
the status of each date can be seen at a glance.

Here is an example starting with the current month SEPTEMBER 2010
Notice that dates before today are not clickable.
