At Studiosoft we create all our own graphics from our extensive library of photographs and images and can create stunning enhancements to web pages. We have created a range of image manipulation tools which have been designed to simplify the management, viewing and resizing of images on the web, whether you need to handle 10 or 10000 images.

Images can make a web page very attractive but they must be used with care. Poor quality or badly composed images can make your website look untidy and large file sizes can make your web pages take too long to load for people with slow connections. When taking images for the web, always take large, good quality images which can be cropped, edited and optimised (have the file size reduced to a suitable size) later.

The series of pictures on this page show a few of the techniques used to enhance the quality of website pictures. Very few pictures appearing in magazines and on the web these days are in their original form as like the original image above (reduced in size for this page) there are too many distractions so in order to make it useable, we need to edit it. The process is quite straight forward, first we select the required area (highlighted in red) and crop it from the rest of the picture. This leaves a nice tidy image but it still contains unwanted distractions.

The hand and arm holding the lamb need to be removed in order make the picture presentable and after a few minutes in Adobe Photoshop, the hand is removed and the picture is sharpened to leave us with a nice, tidy and useable picture.

and which two have we edited?

Have we removed the pedestrian, the tower and the water?

or have we removed the puddle, added a tower, a pedestrian and the water?

or have we added a puddle, a pedestrian and a tower?

In actual fact, the 3rd picture is the original and the others have been manipulated. The reflections in the added water could be made even more convincing if more time was spent on it but we have left it like that to prove it is a fake. The obvious mistake is the reflection of the green grass, from this angle, most of the grass would not be seen as it would be behind the wall and the bottoms of the buildings across the road would be hidden behind the walls too.
